Iron and steel: Imports rose, exports fell

58% of steel imports originating China

According to the Center for Information Industry and Trade Ministry of Industry and Trade (VITIC), in the first 4 months of 2015, Vietnam has imported nearly 4 million tons of iron and steel, with $ 2.3 billion, up 30, 14% in volume and 11.16% in value compared with the same period last year.

In particular, our country steel imports mainly from the Chinese market, reaching 2.3 million tons with a turnover of $ 1.2 billion, an increase of 79.63% in volume and 45.14% in value compared with same period last year, accounting for 57.9% and accounted for 53.2% of the total value.

In second place is Japan, with 735,000 tons, turnover was 407 million, up 2.71% in volume, but down 11.07% in value compared with the same period last year.

Besides two markets, Vietnam also imports iron and steel from other markets such as South Korea (520,000 tons), Taiwan (270,000 tons), India (51,000 tons), Australia (40,000 tons) …

Notably, in the first 4 months of 2015, some steel import market with remarkable growth in volume. Headed by Turkey with 766 tons, turnover of $ 687,000, an increase of 2370.97% 1058.51% in volume and value compared to the same period last year.

In second place was Italy with 2,407 tonnes, turnover was $ 3.4 million, an increase of 1682.96% and 598.18% increase in value over the same period last year.

Followed by Australia with 40,000 tons, a turnover of 16 million USD, an increase of 1335.24% and 787.63% in value over the same period last year.

Finally, there is Hong Kong with 657 tons, turnover of 1.8 million, up 638.2% and 478.97% increase in value over the same period last year.

Iron and steel exports to 28 markets

General Administration of Customs statistics show that in the first 4 months of 2015, Vietnam has exported 779,000 tons of iron and steel, worth $ 576 million, down 14.15% in volume and 15.16% in value versus the same period last year.

Particularly in April, exports dropped 21.1% iron and steel in volume and 22.8% in value compared with the same month of 2014, reaching 200,000 tonnes and the equivalent of USD 142 million.

In the past four months, Vietnam exported to 28 markets steel worldwide, most markets have negative growth in both volume and value.

Only some of the market’s positive growth, Laos rose 83.88% and 74.52% in value compared with the same period last year, equivalent to 75,000 tonnes and USD 54 million; He rose 69.84% and 129.69% in value, equivalent to 1,000 tons and 2 million.

Thailand market also increased 29.63% in quantity and 13.4% in value over the same period last year and equivalent to 76,000 tons of 63 million. Finally the United States increased by 28.96% in volume and 45.92% in value compared with the same period last year, equivalent to 10,000 tons and 17 million.

Cambodia’s export market mainly iron and steel of Vietnam in this period, accounting for 31% of total commodity exports, reaching 241,000 tonnes worth 142 million USD, up by 7.29% in volume but down 4 , 72% in value over the same period

Second Cambodian market is Indonesia with 175,000 tons output, turnover reached 138 million, up 23.38% and 20.37% increase in turnover.
